Health & Safety in and around the Data Centre

Health & Safety

Health & Safety is at the core of everything we do here at Custodian Data Centres. With a team of engineers working on site 24/7/365 to ensure our clients IT infrastructure is set-up and performing as proficiently as possible, it’s important our facility is set up with their safety in mind.

As part of our facilities team, we have David Parker who is our Facilities Manager, heading up health & safety procedures in and around the data centre. It’s his role to ensure that the facility operates smoothly on a day-to-day basis, focusing on hard and soft services such as power, cooling and fire protection.

Prior to working with Custodian, David spent 6 years as a project manager on a new build project for the MoD at the Atomic Weapons Establishment. His experience also spans 20 years working in commercial construction.

Understandably, facilitating a data centre can be a challenge, but it’s something David enjoys. He commented, “The main challenges from my point of view is ensuring that all the building services i.e power, backup, cooling, plant etc is constantly kept up to speed 24/7 to ensure no downtime affecting our customer’s service.

“I enjoy the fact that we need to maintain services at all times. The fact that we build and project manage the data suit builds in-house keeps me in touch with my commercial construction/refurbishment background.”

Whilst conducting regular health & safety site inspections to ensure the working environment is kept safe and incident free, he also works alongside Custodian compliance team. David assists with any facility or health & safety related elements of ISO 27001.
